Animation Principles #2 – Jumping from A to B

One of my animation assignments this week was to animate a Jumping animation using only simple shapes instead of a real figure, which means that all the movement has to be shown through the personality you give to the shapes. The people that were familiar with flash had to animate traditionally, and the people that didn’t understand flash (like me) had to animate in Flash. Also this was my first time using an Intuos tablet and I found it quite difficult because the tablet I currently use at home isn’t as sensitive, so when I was using the intuos my hand was very shaky. Fortunately Flash has a smoothing tool so my linework doesn’t look shaky.

I recorded myself jumping, and then used that as reference for my keyframes. And even though I like the animation, I think that when the shape figure is in the air it moves alot slower than my real jump and I should probably have referenced the jump recording more than I did.

Like the bouncing ball animation I will most likely redo this in a few weeks.
