Too long…

Today was the rough animatic screening for Business Dog, and we got ALOT of feedback, some good, some bad, but its given us alot to work with.

The main concern was that the story was too long, the animatic was 7 minutes but one of our lecturers referred to it as “feeling like 15 minutes” They say time flies when you’re having fun so what does that say about my film hm? I won’t be discouraged by that comment though.

Another one said that whilst the story was actually pretty solid and worked very well, we wouldn’t be able to finish a film of this scale in this timeframe which I completely agree with.

SO after a very long LONG LONG day we’ve reworked the story, it’s not beat for beat the story I wanted to tell but in it’s new form it will definitely be completed and it still holds the core message of the story which I’m happy about. I think i’m going to save the longer version of Business Dog for a rainy day, possibly pitch it as a film at a later date haha

Business Dog – Animation Tests

To try and get more comfortable with animating the Business Dog style I decided to create some animation tests to see how easy this would be to teach to the other members of the team.

The animation below was made on Photoshop, originally we were going to animate with a hybrid of TVPaint and Photoshop but after animating this I realised that making a 5 minute animated film in it would just not be quick or easy and the film would probably never be finished.

And the animation below was made on TVPaint. I made the brushes myself and honestly I prefer them to the Photoshop brushes I used. Along with the animation looking more appealing it was also significantly quicker than animating in Photoshop. Because of this I’ve decided that all the animation will be made in TVPaint, it’ll be quicker, easier and it’ll look nicer. So it’s a win-win situation!

Business Dog is Greenlit!

ctee0-zwgaa_zzo

After a very VERY successful pitch I’m happy to announce that Business Dog is officially  greenlit and is going to be made! I’m so overjoyed that I’m gonna be able to make my film, and not just that, seeing how much people enjoyed the story pitch made me very emotional, knowing that people like something i’ve created is a feeling I don’t think I’ll ever be able to put into words.

Onwards to this year and HOPEFULLY a smooth production of Business Dog!

Business Dog – Concepts

Business Dog is the story i’m hoping to make into my final film in 3rd year. It’s about a dog that goes to get a job to spend more time with his overworking owner. I won’t say anymore about the overall story but i’m to be pitching it in about a week to the course so i’m really hoping it gets through! Here are the concept art I’ve created over summer that will be used in my pitch!
